The State of Utah requires a Truth in Taxation process of public disclosure before a City can implement a property tax rate increase. Several of those requirements have already been met by Draper City, including holding two public hearings at city council meetings. On Wednesday, A Truth in Taxation meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at Draper City Hall to offer a final opportunity for public comment before the tax rate changes. Information about this meeting was also sent to Draper property owners from Salt Lake and Utah Counties with their annual property valuation notices.
The tax increase will generate $1,673,199 in additional revenue in the City budget, which will allow for adjustments to the fire and police wage scales to be competitive in recruiting and retaining personnel. It will also provide additional positions for the police and fire departments to ease staffing strain.
